This type of blue and white porcelain was one of the tremendously classic porcelains in Chinese history. The patterns are hand painted with the blue pigment derived from cobalt oxide. This plate was made in the 19th century for export to the Western markets. These were made in the Chinese city of Guangzhou, formerly known as Canton, this type of ceramics namesake.
